「對不起」到底是 sorry、excuse me 還是 pardon 呢？

Sorry, excuse me, pardon 都有抱歉的意思，
但它們可以通用嗎？
還是分別有不同的使用場合呢？
那麼，你平常都用對了嗎？

Excuse me

使用時機：
1. 使用於要說或做可能令人不悅的事情之前
2. 禮貌發問前，因為怕打擾對方的發語詞
3. 比較像中文「不好意思」的感覺

Excuse me, do you know where the train station is? 不好意思，請問你知道火車站在哪裡嗎？
Excuse me, can I get past?  不好意思，可以讓我通過嗎？
Excuse me, can I open this window?  不好意思，我可以把這扇窗戶打開嗎？ 
另外還可以加上 please 來凸顯禮儀，例如：Excuse me, please, I need to get in through this entrance. 抱歉，麻煩借過，我得從這個入口進去。

Sorry

使用時機：
1. 造成別人不便之後，表示歉意
2. 做錯事情後道歉
2. 表達遺憾的感覺（通常用於聽到對方親人過世、發生憾事、生活不順時）

I’m sorry for giving you so much trouble. 對不起，給你添了這麼多麻煩。
Sorry, I’m late. 對不起，我遲到了。
Sorry, you can’t join this trip. 很抱歉，你沒辦法參加這次的旅行。
I’m sorry to hear that bad news. 聽到這個消息我覺得很遺憾。

Pardon

使用時機：
1. 做錯事道歉時
2. 談話中提出不同想法之前
3. 沒聽清對方的話，希望他重複一遍時
4. （以不友好的語氣）不同意對方的話
5. 在正式場合可以使用 I beg your pardon.

I beg your pardon for coming late. 抱歉，我來遲了。
Pardon, but I think we should take this plan first.  對不起，我認為我們應該要先採取這個計劃。
Pardon? I didn’t hear you clearly.  可以請你再說一遍嗎？我沒聽清楚你說的話。
Pardon, but I don’t agree with your point. 很抱歉我不認同你的論點。

Apologize

使用時機：
1. 不及物動詞，要接上人或事時，後面必須先加上介係詞
註：「及物動詞」是指動詞後面直接接名詞或受詞、「不及物動詞」後面不接名詞或受詞。不及物動詞要與名詞或受詞相接時，後面必須加上副詞或介係詞。
2. 用於做錯事要和人道歉時
3. 要表示向某人道歉，用介係詞 to
4. 要表示因為某種原因而道歉，用介係詞 for

Please apologize to your sister for me. 請幫我向你姐姐道個歉。
I must apologize for not being able to meet you on time. 我很抱歉我沒有準時赴約。

Apology

1. apology和apologize的用法相同，只是apology是名詞，apologize是動詞
2. apology是可數名詞，複數是apologies

Please accept my apologies.  請接受我的種種道歉。
I make an apology for what I said. 我為我所說的道歉。
He accepted the apology with great generosity. 他寬宏大量地接受了道歉。

用英文道歉記得要弄清楚該用哪個字唷！
不然很可能沒道歉成功還讓對方更困惑呢 🙂
