Bob 和他的哥哥 George 在客廳看電視,突然 George 的手機響了。是誰打來的呢?在弄清楚來電者是誰前,先認識下列三組詞彙吧!
cold call (n.) 電話推銷
cold call 直翻意思為「冷電話」,也就是行銷人員打電話給所有潛在客戶推銷產品的「推銷電話」。撥打這類電話,我們可以說 make a cold call 或是 cold-call someone(注意當作動詞使用時,中間會加一個連字號喔!)。
On average, it takes 18 cold calls to make a single sale.
平均而言,每 18 通推銷電話才會遇到一名買家。
introduce (v.) 介紹
introduce 為動詞,意思是「介紹」,如 introduce oneself「自我介紹」。
The salesperson spent three minutes introducing his new product.
推銷員花了三分鐘介紹他的新產品。
補充相關片語:introduce somebody to something「讓某人首次接觸某事物」。
My Spanish friend introduced me to the joys of jamón.
我的西班牙朋友讓我初嘗生火腿的美味。
discount (n.) 折扣
discount 意指「折扣;優惠」,如 20% discount「打八折」、50% discount「打對折」。
I used the coupon and received a 30% discount on my new bicycle.
我用了折價券買新腳踏車,結帳時獲得七折優惠。
學了這三組詞彙後,我們來看看 George 的通話內容:
George: Hello?
George:喂?
Salesperson: Good morning, Sir! This is Steven from Wefu Insurance.
推銷員:先生,早安!我是維福保險公司的 Steven。
Bob: (whispers) Who is it?
Bob:(悄聲說)是誰啊?
George: (whispers) Some guy from the insurance company.
George:(悄聲說)保險公司的人。
Bob: Is it a cold call?
Bob:是推銷電話嗎?
George: (nods) Let’s see what he wants to sell this time. (speaks in to his phone) Yeah?
George:(點頭)來看看他這次要賣什麼。(對電話講)什麼事?
Salesperson: We’ve provided insurance services to hundreds of thousands of people! Have you heard about our company’s latest service?
推銷員:我們已經為上千名客戶提供保險服務!您聽過我們公司的最新服務嗎?
George: No.
George:沒聽過。
Salesperson: Allow me to introduce it to you! It’s a comprehensive insurance package that includes health insurance, accident insurance, and car insurance for less than NT$1,500 a month!
推銷員:容我介紹給您!這是一份涵蓋健康險、意外險和汽車險的保單,每個月新台幣 1,500 有找!
George: Really?
George:真的嗎?
Salesperson: Yes! Today’s your lucky day, Sir! Right now we’re offering a discount! We’re practically giving it away for only NT$800 a month! Let me fill you in on the details…
推銷員:沒錯!先生,今天真是您的幸運日!我們現在正推出折扣優惠,每個月 800 元就能享有此服務,根本就是免費送了!讓我告訴您一些細節……
George 竟然和推銷人員聊起來了!繼續看下去之前,我們先來看看以下這三個詞彙吧!
potential customer (n.) 潛在客戶
potential 為形容詞,意思是「潛在的」,customer 則是名詞,指「客戶;客人」。另外一個常見的 customer 搭配用語是 regular customer,也就是「熟客;老客戶」,regular 意思是「頻繁的;定期的」。
The clerk in the department store targeted me as a potential customer and approached me.
推銷員鎖定我為潛在客戶,並向我走近。
hit on (phr.) 搭訕
別誤會了,hit on 可不是「打」的意思,它指的其實是「搭訕某人」。
My friend found the guy who was hitting on her very annoying.
我朋友覺得一直搭訕她的那個男人很令人厭煩。
be close (phr.) 和……很熟
close 在這裡的意思並非「距離上的近」,而是指「關係上的近」。be close to somebody 指的即是「與某人很熟」。
We’ve been very close since high school.
我們從高中開始就很熟了。
十分鐘過去了,George 終於掛斷電話。
Bob: Are you really interested in taking out an insurance?
Bob:你真的有興趣買保險嗎?
George: No way, I was just messing with the salesperson.
George:不可能,我只是在逗那個推銷員。
Bob: I always hang up the phone as soon as I realize it’s a cold call.
Bob:我每次一發現是推銷電話就會馬上掛斷。
George: Where’s the fun in that? I love to chat with them and find out why they have picked me as a potential customer.
George:那樣哪來的樂趣可言?我喜歡和他們聊天,看看自己為何被視為潛在客戶。
Bob: You’re such a weirdo.
Bob:你真是個怪胎。
George: Maybe I am. Once I even encountered a salesperson who hit on me. She acted as if we were really close, but it turns out she just wanted me to take out a car loan.
George:我或許是。我有一次甚至遇到推銷員搭訕。她裝得和我很熟的樣子,但其實只是想問我需不需要車貸。
