(X) invoice

A: I would like to return some items.
B: Okay, do you have a receipt?
A: Here you go.
A: 給你。
B: I’m sorry ma’am. We do not accept returns or offer exchanges on underwear.
A: What? I want to speak to your manager!
A: 什麼?
B: (Arghhh!!! Not another nutcase!)

(X) kill the price

雖然「殺時間,打發時間」的英文會說 kill time,但「殺價」可不是 kill the price,而是要用 bargain /ˈbɑrgən/ 這個字,例如:bargain with sb.

Advertisements

A: Did you go for a big shop?
B: Yeah, I bought a lot of meat and vegetables at the wet market.
A: I try to avoid wet markets. I hate the stench.
B: Really? I actually quite like the smell of all the fresh ingredients. Plus, you can always bargain with vendors.
A: Alright! It does save money!
A: 好吧!

(X) cheated

A: I got a great deal on this set of skincare products. It was a real bargain!
B: Really? How much?
A: The salesperson said it’s 50 percent off! So it only cost me 22,000 NTD!
B: Wait… what brand is it and where did you buy it?
A: It’s called Fountain of Youth. I bought it from the ABC pharmacy.
B: You were ripped off! That stuff isn’t even close to being worth 22,000 NTD!

(X) compare stores

A: Nice dress! You look so gorgeous.
B: Thanks, but I should have shopped around.
A: Did you find a lower price?
B: Yeah! Right after I bought it, I saw another store selling it for only 490 NTD!
A: How much did you spend then?
B: 990 NTD!
B: 990 元!
A: Well… I guess that lost 500 NTD will teach you to shop around next time.

傳單 flyer/leaflet

(X) DM

A: Hey, I got a part-time job!
B: Congratulations! What will you be doing?
A: It’s a job that can stimulate the economy and grow our GDP.
B: Wow, sounds really meaningful!
A: Yep. I’ll be handing out flyers in front of the ABC pharmacy every weekend.
B: *facepalm*
B: (傻眼)

奧客 difficult customer

 (X) bad customer

A: How’s the new job?
B: Didn’t I tell you? I quit.
A: How come? I thought the pay was nice.
A: 怎麼會?
B: It did, but I couldn’t stand difficult customers anymore.
A: That’s why I decided to be an engineer. You rarely have to deal with customers.
B: Maybe I should change my career path.
