算命的方式五花八門，
常見的其中一種算命方式為塔羅牌，
今天小 V 就來教你如何用英文問事占卜！
Sofia 手裡拿著一疊卡，興致勃勃地走向 Bob……
Sofia: Bob, would you like to know your future? I just learned how to read tarot cards.
Sofia：Bob，你想要知道你的未來嗎？我剛剛學會算塔羅牌。
Bob: Well, I’ve never tried it before, but I guess it’ll be fun.
Bob：我從沒試過耶，我想應該會很有趣。
Sofia: Great, let’s see if I can read your fortune.
Sofia：太好啦，來試試我能不能幫你算命。
Bob: Where is your crystal ball then?
Bob：那你的水晶球在哪？
Sofia: I don’t need a crystal ball, all I need is a deck of tarot cards!
Sofia：我不需要水晶球，我只需要一副塔羅牌。
Bob: Oh… I thought all fortune-tellers have a crystal ball.
Bob：噢…我以為所有算命師都有一顆水晶球。
Sofia: Hahaha! No, not necessarily. Let me shuffle the cards first…
Sofia：哈哈哈！沒有啦，不一定。先讓我洗牌…
即便不會算命，小 V 也知道你接下來五分鐘會做什麼…你會和小 V 一起複習下列單字！
read sb.’s fortune (phr.) 替某人算命
forture 這個字為名詞，意思是「運勢；財富」，而替人算命的動詞則搭配動詞 read。
Sofia read her friend’s fortune using tarot cards.
Sofia 透過塔羅牌替她朋友算命。
fortune-teller 算命師
fortune-teller 指的是「算命師」，fortune-telling 則是名詞，表示「算命」這個動作。
Fortune-tellers make a living by reading fortunes.
算命師靠算命維生。
shuffle (v.) 洗牌
在本文中，shuffle 指的是「洗牌」，也可以指「隨機播放」，然而 shuffle 原本是指「把…挪來挪去」，而「洗牌」也是把牌挪來挪去，是不是很好記呢？
The dealer shuffled the cards.
莊家洗牌。My hamster loves shuffling his food.
我的倉鼠喜歡把食物挪來挪去。
所以 Bob 的運勢如何呢？
Sofia: What would you like to know about your future?
Sofia：你想知道未來的哪方面？
Bob: (pondering) I’d like to know if I’ll find a girlfriend this year!
Bob：(思考) 我想知道我今年交不交得到女朋友！
Sofia: (Picks a card) Oh…
Sofia：(抽一張牌) 噢……
Bob: What!?
Bob：怎麼了！？
Sofia: It seems that you’re going to meet someone and fall in love with that person pretty quickly, but it wouldn’t be a smooth relationship.
Sofia：看來你很快就會遇到某個人並且和那個人陷入戀愛，但那不會是一段平穩的戀情。
Bob: I suppose nobody can expect their first romance to be totally smooth.
Bob：我想第一段感情也不太可能會多容易。
Sofia: But you’re going to learn a lot from it. What else would you like to know?
Sofia：但你會從中學到很多。你還想知道什麼嗎？
Bob: I want to know if I will make a fortune in the future.
Bob：我想知道我未來會不會賺大錢。
Sofia: (Pick a card) Bob, you got to buy a lottery ticket right away!
Sofia：(抽出一張卡) Bob，你一定要立刻買一張樂透！
Bob: Why? Does that mean I’m going to hit the jackpot!?
Bob：為什麼？是不是代表我要中大獎了！？
Sofia: Yes… I predict that you’re going to win… 100 NTD!!
Sofia：對…我預測你會中一百塊！！
Sofia 你確定只有一百塊！？Bob 還以為會中百萬樂透……來複習單字吧！還是學英文腳踏實地比較實在！
make a fortune (phr.) 賺大錢
fortune 除了在上一節講的可以拿來指「運勢」 ，亦可以用來指「財富」，因此 make a fortune 指的即是「賺大錢；發大財」。
Sally made a fortune selling her paintings.
Sally 賣她的畫作賺了一大筆錢。
hit the jackpot (phr.) 中大獎
jackpot 為名詞，中文意思是「頭獎」，hit the jackpot 指的即是「中大獎」，尤其用來指「突然迅速賺進一大筆錢；獲得意外之財」。另外提醒大家，hit 的過去式和過去分詞依舊是 hit 哦！
Tommy spent the rest of his life traveling around the world after he hit the jackpot.
Tommy 中大獎後開始環遊世界。
predict (v.) 預測
predict 的中文為「預測；預知」，如：predict the future (預知未來)。
Experts predict that the pandemic will ebb in the following months.
人們預知疫情將於接下來幾個月趨緩。
