讀大學最怕什麼？
除了雷室友外
最怕的大概就是被當！補考！
為了避免英文被當，
來學學這些考試相關詞彙吧！
最後一科期末考落幕了！Sofia 和 Bob 終於鬆了一口氣。
Sofia: What’s the matter, Bob? The final exam is over! You should be happy that our vacation has finally started!
Sofia：怎麼啦，Bob？期末考終於結束了！我們假期終於開始了，你應該很開心呀！
Bob: Yeah… but I can’t stop thinking about how I did.
Bob：嗯… 但我就是忍不住擔心我的期末考考得如何。
Sofia: Forget about it! Get yourself in vacation mode!
Sofia：別想啦！快準備好進入度假模式！
Bob: (sigh) I’m so worried about my grade though…
Bob：(嘆氣) 但我很擔心我的成績 …
Sofia: I don’t think you’ll flunk the course—if that’s what you’ve been worrying about.
Sofia：我不覺得你這科會被當，如果你是在擔心這個。
Bob: I don’t know. It’s hard to say.
Bob：不知道，很難說。
Sofia: I mean, you’ve handed in all the homework on time. I suppose that in itself is enough to pass the class.
Sofia：我的意思是，畢竟你所有作業都準時交。我想那就足以讓你通過了。
既然 Bob 平時作業也從不缺交，那他究竟在擔心什麼呢？
繼續看下去前，我們先來學習以下單字！
final exam (n.) 期末考
exam 為 examination 的簡寫，中文意思為「考試」，尤其指「大考」，比如：college entrance exam (大學入學考試)、midterm exam (期中考)、final exam (期末考)。
The library is crowded with students because the midterm exam is in a week.
圖書館都是學生，因為再一個禮拜就是期中考了。
說到「考試」，常見的單字還有 test 和 quiz。
test 為「考試」的統稱，用來泛稱所有類型的考試。test 也可以當做動詞，意思是「測試」。
Students are used to taking tests.
學生習慣考試。The teacher tested the microphone before the lecture.
老師講課前先測試了麥克風。
而 quiz 通常是指小考，例如：pop quiz (隨堂考)。
The teacher gave us a pop quiz to see if we’ve reviewed the class.
老師隨堂小考看我們有沒有複習上課內容。
grade (n.) 成績
grade 的中文是「成績；分數」，也可以指「年級」。
Sofia received a high grade for the course.
Sofia 這門課高分通過。My sister is in elementary school. She just started the third grade.
我妹妹讀國小，剛升上三年級。
grade 也可以當動詞，意思是「評分」。
Prof. Gao graded the papers from his students.
高教授給他學生的報告評分。
flunk (v.) 不及格
flunk 的中文為「(成績) 不及格；(課程) 沒過」，也就是「被當」，後面可直接接課程的名稱當受詞。近義詞有 fail「失敗」。
Tommy couldn’t apply for the scholarship because he flunked one of the required courses.
Tommy 無法申請獎學金，因為他必修課沒過。Tommy has to take the course again because he failed it last time.
Tommy 上次被當，所以這次要重修。
Bob 覺得自己平時上課哪裡做得不夠所以才擔心嗎？
Bob: But I did skip the class a couple of times.
Bob：但我的確翹了幾次課。
Sofia: So that’s why you’ve been worrying! Relax, I’ve heard that this teacher doesn’t pay much attention to attendance. He cares more about the homework and exams.
Sofia：所以你才會在擔心呀！放輕鬆，我聽說這個老師不太會在意學生出席。他比較在意作業和考試。
Bob: Well, until the day I receive my report card I won’t be able to fully relax.
Bob：好吧，我想我要到成績單出來那天才會放心。
Sofia: Also, I’ve heard that this teacher always holds a make-up exam for those who have done well throughout the semester but fail the final exam.
Sofia：還有哦，我聽說這個老師會讓那些平日表現很好但是期末考考砸的學生補考。
Bob: Really? Why didn’t you tell me earlier!
Bob：真假？你怎麼不早說！
Sofia: You didn’t ask! Anyway, relax, it’s not like you’ve been caught cheating on the exam— otherwise you’d definitely fail the class!
Sofia：你也沒問嘛！總之呢放心，又不是說你被抓到考試作弊，那肯定被當的！
老師佛心來著，竟然還提供補考。Bob 別擔心了，好好享受假期吧！
report card (n.) 成績單
report card 的中文為「成績單」，或寫成 school report。
Tommy hid his report card so his parents wouldn’t know he had flunked the class.
Tommy 把成績單藏起來，這樣他爸媽就不會知道他被當。
make-up exam (n.) 補考
make-up 的中文為「彌補；補償」(補充片語 make up for sth. 意思是「補償某事」)，make-up exam 即是指「補考」。
Tommy took the make-up exam and finally passed the course.
Tommy 補考後終於通過了這門課。
cheat (v.) 作弊
cheat 的中文是「作弊」，亦可指「欺騙；外遇」，補充：cheat on sb. 意指「對某人不忠」。
This school has zero-tolerance policy on cheating.
這所學校絕不容忍任何作弊行為。Sara broke up with her boyfriend once she found out he’d been cheating on her.
Sara 一發現她男友外遇，立馬和他分手。
