因為就算被打到頭也不痛！
但你知道桌球相關的英文詞彙嗎？
「球拍」、「出界」的英文是什麼呢？
跟著小 V 一起來認識有趣的桌球英文吧！
Sofia 在和 Bob 聊她這學期修的桌球課，有哪些有趣的事嗎？一起來聽聽吧！
Bob: Sofia, what PE class are you taking this semester?
Bob：Sofia，你這學期上什麼體育課？Sofia: I’m taking the table tennis.
Sofia：我在上桌球課。
Bob: Table tennis? You mean ping-pong?
Bob：桌球？你是指乒乓球嗎？
Sofia: Yeah, they’re the same. I really love playing table tennis. And you know what? Our teacher is so handsome that I’d never skip his class.
Sofia：對啊，一樣啦。我真的很愛打桌球。而且你知道嗎？我們老師太帥了，我絕對不會翹他的課。
Bob: Haha, I suppose that is a good enough reason to go to class. Besides finding out the teacher is good looking, have you learned anything interesting?
Bob：哈哈哈，那的確是一個上課的好理由。除此之外，你有學到什麼有趣的嗎？
Sofia: Of course! I found out I had been holding the paddle all wrong.
Sofia：當然！我最近才知道我從前握拍都是錯的。
Bob: How did you used to hold it then?
Bob：你從前都習慣怎麼握？
Sofia: I’m not going to tell you, you’re just going to laugh at me!
Sofia：我才不描述給你聽，你肯定會笑我！
真好奇 Sofia 從前都怎麼握拍的，先和小 V 一起來學習新字吧！
table tennis (n.) 桌球
table 意指「桌子」，tennis 意指「網球」，合起來 table tennis 指的則是「桌球」，別稱 ping-pong，就好像我們中文有時會說「桌球」，有時說「乒乓球」。想一想，桌球看起來像不像迷你版的網球呢？
Table tennis is also known as ping-pong.
桌球和乒乓球指的都是同一種運動。
skip (v.) 翹 (課)
skip 有「跳躍；略過；跳繩」的意思，在這篇對話中，skip 意指「(翹) 課」，即 skip class。
Tommy frequently skips class.
Tommy 經常翹課。
skip 指「略過；跳繩」時例句如下：
This part of the textbook was so boring that I just skipped it.
課本這部分也太無聊了，所以我索性略過。Skipping is less painful on your knees than running.
和跑步比起來跳繩對膝蓋的傷害比較小。
paddle (n.) 球拍
paddle 本來的意思為「船槳」，但也能拿來指「桌球拍」，想像桌球拍長得也的確很像迷你的船槳。
Each of us grabbed a paddle then picked a side of the table.
我們每個人拿了一支球拍，然後站在桌旁。
Sofia 的課上還有發生什麼事呢？繼續看下去！
Bob: So how do you hold the paddle now?
Bob：好吧，好吧。所以你現在都怎麼握拍？Sofia: I use penhold grip, where you wrap your index finger and thumb around the top of the handle, and use your other fingers to support the rest of the paddle.
Sofia：我都用直拍握法。我用食指和大拇指圍繞握拍，然後用手其他的部分支撐整個拍子。
Bob: I see.
Bob：了解。
Sofia: We also learned how to get a serve over the net without hitting it.
Sofia：我們也學了怎麼發球不打到網子。
Bob: Did you play against your classmate?
Bob：你是和同學打嗎？
Sofia: Yes, I did. But both of us were really terrible and kept hitting it out of bounds, so we spent most of the time chasing loose balls.
Sofia：是啊。不過我們兩個技術都很差，一直打出界，所以我們就一直在撿掉的球。Bob: That sounds tiring.
Bob：聽起來真累人。
Sofia: Yeah, but the worse that we played the more time the coach had to spend with us. So, I’m still pretty content!
Sofia：那倒是。不過因為我們打得實在太爛，老師就特別關注我們。所以我還是相當滿意！
Sofia 到底是去學桌球還是去看帥哥老師的啊啊，小 V 很想吐槽。不過吐槽的同時也別忘了複習單字！
penhold grip (n.) 直拍握法
penhold grip 的字面意思為「握筆握法」，來源於這種握拍方式和握筆的姿勢很像，亦可翻為「直拍握法」。
There are two main grips in table tennis: the penhold grip and the shakehand grip.
桌球有兩種握拍的方式：直拍握法和刀板握法。
其中 grip 這個字為名詞，意思是「緊握」，亦可當動詞。
My sister gripped my hand tightly.
我的妹妹緊緊握著我的手。Remember not to lose grip of my arm.
記得握緊我的手臂。
handle (n.) 握把
handle 意指「把手；握柄」，在這裡指桌球拍的「握柄」。
The wooden handle of this paddle has been worn away.
這支球拍的木頭握柄都腐朽了。
handle 亦可當動詞，意指「應付；處理」。
Sammy handled the situation very well, hence the promotion.
Sammy 把這個狀況處理得非常好，因而獲得升遷。
net (n.) (球) 網
net 意指「網子」，在運動領域指的則是「球網」。
The ping-pong ball passed through a hole in the net.
乒乓球穿過了網子上的一個洞。
out of bounds (phr.) 出界
bounds 為名詞，意思是「界線」，注意當界線解釋時恆用複數形，例如：in bounds (在界線內)、out of bounds (出界)、know no bounds (無止境)。
The referee said the ball went out of bounds and that it was the other team’s turn to serve.
裁判說球出界了然後換另外一對發球。
content (adj.) 滿足的
content /kənˈtɛnt/ 在這邊為形容詞，意指「滿足的；滿意的」，be content with sb./sth. 意指「對…感到心滿意足」。補充：content /ˈkɑnˌtɛnt/ 也可當名詞，表示「內容」。
Tommy’s mother was not content with his exam score.
Tommy 的媽媽對他的考試結果感到不滿，她鼓勵他更認真讀書。
