Tony 的爸爸是高爾夫球迷，平常週末也會跟三五好友一起去高爾夫球場打球，這週末完全沒接觸過高爾夫球的 Tony 也跟著爸爸一起到球場學打球，現在我們就跟著他們一起去球場吧！
Tony: Dad, I know you’re a golf addict, but I don’t know anything about it. Can you teach me how to play?
Tony: 爸，我知道你是高爾夫球粉，但我對高爾夫一竅不通，你可以教我嗎？Dad: Sure! Let’s go to the golf course.
爸爸: 當然！一起去高爾夫球場吧，我可以教你。Tony: Great! Let’s go!
Tony: 太棒了！走吧！(At the golf course)
(在高爾夫球場)Dad: So, a standard golf course has 18 holes, each marked with a flagstick—also known as a “pin.” Seeing as you’re a beginner, we’ll start off on a nine-hole course.
爸爸: 一般的高爾夫球場有 18 個球洞，每一個都會插旗，也就是所謂的旗桿，但因為你只是初學者，所以我們就從九個洞的球場開始。Tony: Okay.
Tony: 好。Dad: We play the holes on the course in order. Each person takes a turn to hit the ball, and the person who has the lowest score from the previous hole gets to tee off first on the next one.
爸爸: 之後，我們會按照洞的順序在球場裡打球，一群人輪流打球，上一輪得最低分的可以優先發球。Tony: But the course is so big, how do we get from hole to hole?
Tony: 但這個球場很大，我們要如何在球場移動呢？Dad: Don’t worry, we have a golf cart. Alright, I’ll start—watch and learn.

addict (n.) 非常喜歡…的人
你身邊也有非常喜歡打高爾夫球的人嗎？那你可以稱他們為 golf addict，addict 為名詞，表示「對…成癮的人」，例如：drug addict (藥物成癮者)、chocolate addict (非常喜歡巧克力的人)。
My best friend Jamie is a complete golf addict—there isn’t a single golf event he’ll miss.
我最好的朋友 Jamie 是一個超級高爾夫狂熱者，他絕對不會錯過任何一場他知道的球賽。
golf course (n.) 高爾夫球場
course 這個字除了可以當名詞「課程」之外，也可以當「球場」的意思，不論是高爾夫球場或是跑道都可以用這個字。
My dad usually plays golf on this course.
我爸通常都在這個球場打高爾夫球。
hole (n.) 高爾夫球洞 / flagstick (n.) 旗桿
高爾夫球最重要的就是要把球打進球洞，而高爾夫球洞的英文很簡單，就是 hole，而每個球洞都有插一隻旗桿，英文則是 flagstick，flag 為「旗子」，stick 為「桿子」。
The aim of golf is to get the ball into the hole with the fewest number of shots.
高爾夫球的目標是用最低的分數將球打進洞裡。
tee off (phr.) 發球
高爾夫球中的發球英文應該怎麼說呢？就是 tee off，tee 是名詞「高爾夫球座，發球區」，若後面加上 off 則變成動詞片語，表示「(高爾夫球) 發球、開始 (高爾夫球賽)」。
The tournament tees off at 11:00 a.m.
高爾夫球比賽早上十一點開始。
golf cart (n.) 高爾夫球車
一般的高爾夫球場面積通常很大，若要徒步走完整個球場，可能要個三天三夜，所以通常通會有高爾夫球車在旁接送，而高爾夫球車的英文就是 golf cart。cart 是名詞「兩輪或四輪的運貨馬車；手推車」，例如賣場的「購物推車」就是 shopping cart 這個字。
There are usually golf carts at the course.
通常高爾夫球場裡會有高爾夫球車。
於是 Tony 的爸爸開始與他的朋友打球，而 Tony 則在場邊觀摩。
Dad: Hey Victor, long time no see. How are you?
爸爸: 嗨 Victor，好久不見，你好嗎？Victor: I’m doing alright. Are you ready to lose?
Victor: 我很好，你準備好要被我打敗了嗎？Dad: You wish! Let’s go! You start.
爸爸: 想得美，我們開始吧！你先。Victor: Alright, let’s golf!
Victor: 好啊，開始吧！Dad: Is this hole a par 3 or par 4?
爸爸: 這球洞的標準杆是三杆還是四杆？Victor: It looks like a like a par 4.
Victor: 看起來是四杆。(After hitting the ball)
(在擊球之後)Dad: Nice shot! Your game is on fire today.
爸爸: 好球！你今天打得很順。Victor: Thanks.
Victor: 謝謝。
par (n.) 標準杆
高爾夫球中會以標準杆來計算球洞的距離，而標準杆的英文就是 par，這個字除了當高爾夫球中的標準杆，也可以當作名詞「一般水準」的意思，常用 on a par with 表示「和…不相上下」，例句如下：
As a basketball player, he is on a par with LeBron James.
身為一個籃球員，他的水準跟 LeBron James 不相上下。
Your game is on fire today. 你今天球打得很順
on fire 這個片語很有趣，原本意思是「著火」，如果你說 sth. is on fire，有可能是真的著火了，也有可能是想表示某件事情「進行地如火如荼、火力全開」的意思。用在球場上，如果想說打球打得很順就可以說 Your game is on fire.。
He’s made every shot today—his game is on fire!
他每一球都進，他今天真的打得很順。
