Tip 1: Initiate 先搶先贏
此招術「先搶先贏法」使用主動出擊，讓長輩們在毫無防備下，就先被你開始的話題帶走！高招高招！
使用方法示範：
Katie: I haven’t seen you for so long, Aunty McMuffin. How are you doing? I heard you just moved into a new place. How is it?
Aunty McMuffin: It’s great! I love my new place.
Katie: Have you met your new neighbors? What are they like?Katie：我好久沒有看到妳了，滿福堡阿姨，聽說妳最近搬新家了，那裡如何？
滿福堡阿姨：很棒！我喜歡我的新家。
Katie：妳有見過你的新鄰居了嗎？他們怎麼樣？
initiate 是動詞，意思是「開始，發起，開創」，例如：initiate a conversation (開啟話題)。
The teacher walked into the classroom and furiously asked who had initiated the fight between the two classmates.
老師走進教室，很生氣地問這兩個同學間是誰先開始動手的。She’s a shy person. She seldom initiates a conversation with others.
她是一個害羞的人，她很少跟其他人主動開啟話題。
Tip 2: Deflect 轉移話題
此招數「轉移話題法」，當有問題朝你這裡過來時，你就像是打棒球一樣直接把它打出去。高招高招！
使用方法示範：
Aunty McMuffin: You’re in college, right Katie? Do you have a boyfriend?
Katie: “Boyfriend” is a popular Justin Bieber song! Did you know that, Aunty?
Aunty McMuffin: I don’t think I’ve heard of it…
Katie: Let me sing it for you right now!滿福堡阿姨：妳上大學了吧， Katie ？妳交男朋友了嗎？
Katie： 「男朋友」是小賈斯汀很紅的一首歌！阿姨妳聽過嗎？
滿福堡阿姨：好像沒有聽過餒…
Katie： 那我現在唱給妳聽！
deflect 為動詞，意思是「(使) 轉向，(使) 偏斜」，名詞形為 deflection ，意指「突然轉向，偏移，偏離」。
The ball deflected off the window instead of breaking it.
球打到窗戶時反彈了，並沒有打破它。The celebrity kept deflecting the journalist’s questions regarding her private relationships.
那個明星一直避而不答新聞記者問她有關她私人感情生活的問題。

Tip 3: Silence is golden. 沈默是金
俗話說得好，無聲勝有聲，如果你少說點話，保持冷靜、沈著，長輩就很難問下去了吧？高招高招！
使用方法示範：
Aunty McMuffin: If you have time, you should work and earn some money! Do you have a part-time job? Or are you interning?
Katie: ….
Aunty McMuffin: Katie? Did you hear me? Are you working?
Katie: ….
Aunty McMuffin: Katie?
Katie: Sorry. I was just thinking.滿福堡阿姨：如果妳有時間的話，妳應該要去工作！妳有打工嗎？還是妳在實習？
Katie：…
滿福堡阿姨：Katie ，妳有聽到我說什麼嗎？妳有沒有工作？
Katie：…
滿福堡阿姨：Katie ？
Katie：抱歉，我只是在思考而已。
silence 為名詞，意思是「無聲，沈默，緘默」，此字的形容詞是 silent，表示「寧靜的，寂靜的」，而 Silence is golden. 就是指「沈默是金」。
Silence! Speak only when I ask you to!
安靜！我叫你說話的時候才能開口！Kara is extra silent today. Is she okay?
Kara 今天特別安靜，她還好嗎？
Tip 4: Ignorance is bliss. 無知便是福
「不要再問了，我真的什麼都不知道」，當長輩得不到想要的答案，不久後便會放棄！高招高招！
使用方法示範：
Aunty McMuffin: My son, McNuggets, met the mayor recently because of his perfect academic grades! How did you do at your school?
Katie: I don’t know, Aunty. The professor hasn’t graded us yet.
Aunty McMuffin: Oh, then how do you think you did?
Katie: I really can’t tell. I don’t know.
Aunty McMuffin: Okay, then.滿福堡阿姨：我的兒子，麥克雞塊，因為他成績優異，最近見到了市長！妳在學校的成績怎麼樣啊？
Katie：我不知道，教授還沒有打成績。
滿福堡阿姨：那你自己覺得如何呢？
Katie：這不好說，我也不知道。
滿福堡阿姨：這樣啊，好吧。
ignorance 是指「無知，愚昧」，而 bliss 有「極樂，狂喜，天賜之福」的意思，兩著皆為名詞，因此片語 Ignorance is bliss. 意思便為「無知便是福」。
Ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking it.
對法律的無知不是犯罪的藉口。I wish you a lifetime of bliss and happiness.

Katie: I think I want a husband who respects me. I have a dream to follow and he needs to understand that I won’t sacrifice it for anything. I choose money over love. He needs to be okay with that. Do you think that kind of man exists?
Aunty McMuffin: Ummmm….. maybe.滿福堡阿姨：我覺得該是妳找一個丈夫並定下來了，妳不覺得嗎？
Katie：我覺得我想要一個尊重我的丈夫，我有夢想要追尋，他必須了解我不會為了任何事放棄它，愛情跟麵包我選擇麵包，他必須覺得這樣可以，妳覺得這樣的男人存在嗎？
滿福堡阿姨：呃… 可能吧。
honesty 是名詞，意思是「誠實」，而此字的原形是 honest ，意指「誠實的，可信的」，為形容詞，另外，名詞 policy 是「政策，方針，策略」的意思，所以片語 Honesty is the best policy. 就是指「誠實為上策」。
Honesty is the key to a healthy relationship.
誠實是健康感情關係的關鍵。I wasn’t being honest when I said that the dress looked good on you.
當我說這件妳穿這件洋裝很好看的時候，我其實是騙妳的。You should check the store policy before you buy anything.
