孤單寂寞覺得冷，Sofia 今年跨年又是一個人過，身邊好朋友各個都有男女朋友，Sofia 納悶自己的桃花何時才會到來。誒誒這個時候，Sofia 正巧在校園內看到一個外 (她) 國 (的) 學 (菜) 生，她一個衝動等發覺時人已經來到那個學生的面前！和小 V 一起來看看 Sofia 的搭訕過程吧！

Sofia: Hello!
Sofia：你好！
Foreign Student: Hi.
外國學生：你好？
Sofia: Nice to meet you! I’m Sofia, a student here. What’s your name?
Sofia：很高興認識你！我是 Sofia，這裡的學生。你叫什麼名字？
Foreign Student: Oh, I’m a student as well. Nice to meet you. I’m Marco.
外國學生：噢，我也是這裡的學生。很高興認識你，我叫做 Marco。
Sofia: Are you an exchange student?
Sofia：你是交換學生嗎？
Marco: Yes, I came here to study Mandarin for one semester. I’m from Italy.
Marco：是的，我來這裡讀一個學期的中文。我來自義大利。
Sofia: Wow, how nice! I’ve always dreamed of studying abroad.
Sofia：哇，好棒哦！我一直夢想到國外讀書。
Marco: (smiling) Yes, it’s nice indeed, but it’s difficult to adapt to a new environment, especially when everything is in Mandarin. For example, I have so much trouble reading a menu.
Marco：(微笑) 是啊，是很棒沒錯，不過要適應新的環境很困難，尤其是周遭一切都是中文。比如說，我就覺得菜單很難讀。Sofia: In that case, would you like to have dinner with me?
Sofia：既然這樣，你想不想晚餐和我一起吃呢？
Marco 真是健談，Sofia 也真會抓時機！不過在我們繼續看下去之前，先和小 V 一起複習單字吧！
exchange student (n.) 交換學生
在本文中，exchange student 意指「交換學生」，exchange 指的即是學校之間的「交換生計劃」。除此之外，exchange 一般常當動詞使用，意思是「交換；交流」。
Lisa plans to apply for an exchange program next semester.
Lisa 計劃下學期申請當交換生。
We held a meeting to exchange our ideas once every week.
我們每週開會，互相交流想法。
adapt to (phr.) 適應
adapt 為動詞，意思是「適應；改編」，常見搭配用法如：be adapted from sth. (改編自…)、be adapted for sth. (改編為…)。當「適應」解釋時常搭配介系詞 to，adapt to sth. (適應…)。
It took me a few days to adapt to college life.
我花了幾天適應大學生活。
This TV series is adapted from a novel.
這部電視影集改編自一本小說。
“The Handmaid’s Tale” has been adapted for a TV series.
《侍女的故事》已被改編為電視影集。
in that case (phr.) 既然如此
in that case 意思是「既然如此」，常置於句首。
A: It will rain this afternoon.
B: In that case, we’d better bring our umbrellas.
A: 下午會下雨。
B: 既然如此，我們最好帶上雨傘。
Marco 會如何回覆呢？讓我們繼續看下去 …
Marco: Really? You want to have dinner with me?
Marco：真的嗎？你想和我一起吃晚餐？
Sofia: Why not? I mean, this place is strange to you. It’s my duty to show you around and tell you which restaurants are good and which ones to avoid.
Sofia：為什麼不呢？我是說，你對這地方不熟悉，我有義務帶你到附近晃晃，告訴你哪些餐廳好吃、哪些應該避開。
Marco: Hahaha! It’s so nice of you! So, where are you taking me tonight?
Marco：哈哈！你人真好！那你今晚要帶我去哪裡？
Sofia: What type of cuisine would you like to try? Japanese? Taiwanese? Thai?
Sofia：你想吃哪一類的料理？日本料理？台灣料理？泰式？
Marco: Well… I haven’t tried any Taiwanese food yet.
Marco：嗯…我還沒吃過台灣料理。
Sofia: Then let’s have some Taiwanese food! Do you prefer rice or noodles?
Sofia：那我們去吃一些台灣菜吧！你想吃飯還是麵？
Marco: Noodles sound good to me.
Marco：麵聽起來感覺不錯。
Sofia: Then how about beef noodles?
Sofia：那我們去吃牛肉麵如何？
Marco: That sounds amazing!
Marco：聽起來很讚！
Sofia 竟然成功了！沒有啦，小 V 沒有看衰 Sofia 的意思，來複習單字吧！
strange (adj.) 不熟悉的
在本文中，strange 指的並不是「奇怪的」，而是指「不熟悉的；陌生的」，如「陌生人」的英文即為 stranger。
Tommy has never been to Penghu; it’s strange to him.
Tommy 從沒去過澎湖，那對他而言是個陌生的地方。
My mom told me not to take food from strangers.
媽媽告訴我別接受陌生人給的任何食物。
cuisine (n.) 料理
cuisine 的意思是「料理；烹飪」，如：Korean cuisine (韓式料理)、Japanese cuisine (日式料理)，當然也可以用 food 代替 cuisien，只不過 cuisine 是比較正式的說法，就如中文裡「料理」也是比「菜」要正式的說法。
He dreams of becoming a master of French cuisine.
他夢想成為一位法式料理的專家。
prefer (v.) 偏好
prefer 為動詞，意思是「偏好；比較喜愛」，常見用法為 prefer A to B (比起 B 更偏好 A)。
Which flavor of ice cream do you prefer? Chocolate or vanilla?
你偏好哪個口味的冰淇淋？巧克力還是香草？
I prefer relaxing on the beach to going on a hike.
比起爬山，我更喜愛去海邊。
