為什麼售票員問我要 window seat 還是「唉唷 seat」？
密密麻麻的時刻表上寫著的 Plat 又是什麼？
來學學 Linda 怎麼用英文買火車票
讓你不用跟團也可以順利旅行！
英國自由行的第二天，Linda 決定從帕丁頓車站 (Paddington Station) 前往牛津 (Oxford)，感受古老的大學城氣息。她走向售票亭 (ticket booth) 買票。
Linda: Good morning, one standard ticket to Oxford, please.
Linda：早安，我要一張到牛津的票，普通艙就好。Ticket Clerk: Single or return?
售票員：單程還是來回？Linda: Single, please.
Linda：請給我單程票。Ticket Clerk: Would you prefer a window or an aisle seat?
售票員：你想要靠窗還是靠走道的座位？Linda: I would prefer a window seat.
Linda：我想要靠窗的座位。Ticket Clerk: That’s $24.50 pounds. Here is your ticket and your receipt.
售票員：一共是 24.50 磅，這是您的車票和收據。Linda: Thank you. Which platform does the train leave from and when does it arrive there?
Linda：謝謝，請問要在第幾月台上車？車什麼時候到牛津？Ticket Clerk: The train leaves from platform 8 and arrives at 9:43.
售票員：火車在第 8 月台發車，9:43 會抵達牛津。Linda: Is it a direct train, or do I need to transfer somewhere?
Linda：這班是直達車嗎？還是我要在哪裡轉車？Ticket Clerk: You don’t need to transfer. It’s a direct train.
售票員：你不需要轉車，這班會直達牛津。
window/aisle seat (n.) 靠窗/走道 的座位
window seat 是「靠窗的座位」，而 aisle 是「走廊；走道」，所以 aisle seat 就是「靠走道的座位」，要特別注意中間的 s 不發音，讀做 /aɪl/。
I prefer aisle seats because I can access the toilets more easily.
我比較喜歡靠走道的座位，因為去廁所比較方便。
receipt (n.) 收據；發票
receipt 的意思是「收據；發票」，注意中間的 p 不發音，讀做 /rɪˈsit/。receipt 是購買產品後，消費者收到的收據。invoice 常被誤譯為「發票」，但 invoice 其實是供消費者日後支付的「費用清單」。
If you want to return or exchange your item, you have to show your receipt.
您必須出示發票才可以退換貨。
platform (n.) 月台
platform 除了有「月台」的意思，還可以當「講台；舞台」，火車時刻表上顯示的 Plat 就代表月台。要說「火車會從第 X 月台駛離」則會用 depart/leave from platform X。
The next train for New York will depart from platform 2.
下一班往紐約的火車會從 2 號月台駛離。
direct train (n.) 直達車
形容詞 direct 的意思是「直通的；直達的」或「直接的」，所以 direct train 就是「直達車」。
It’s not a direct train. You have to change at Edinburgh.
這班不是直達列車。你要在愛丁堡轉車。
transfer (v.) 轉車
transfer 動名詞同形，有「調動；轉移；轉車」的意思，轉移或轉車至某處，用 transfer to swh.。此外也可以用 change 這個動詞表達相同意思。
You have to transfer at this stop and take the blue line.
你必須在此站轉車然後轉至藍線。
害怕迷路找不到月台的 Linda，提前 30 分鐘到月台等候，但等到了 8:40 分，卻看到時刻表 上面寫著「誤點」，焦急的她便求助於一旁和藹的老奶奶。
Linda: Excuse me, I wonder when the train to Oxford will come. The timetable only showed “delayed.”
Linda：不好意思，我想問去牛津的車什麼時候會來？時刻表上面只有顯示「誤點」。Granny: Oh, dear. You have to pay attention to the train announcements. Recently, many trains were cancelled due to the extreme heat.
老奶奶：噢，親愛的。那妳要注意車站的廣播。最近有許多班次都因為天氣太熱取消了。Linda: No! I hope my trip to Oxford won’t be ruined.
Linda：不！希望我的牛津之旅不會毀了。Train announcement: We are sorry to announce that the 8:50 service to Kingham will be delayed by approximately 9 minutes.
車站廣播：各位旅客很抱歉，8:50 開往金漢姆的列車大約會誤點 9 分鐘。Granny: Luckily, it’s just a few minutes late!
老奶奶：幸好只是誤點幾分鐘而已！(After about 9 minutes.)
(大約 9 分鐘後。)Train announcement: The train at platform 8 is the 8:50 Great Western Railway service to Kingham. Calling at: Slough, Reading, Oxford, Hanborough, Charlbury and Kingham. This train has 8 cars. First class is at the rear. Standard class is at the middle and front.
車站廣播：停靠在 8 號月台的列車，是大西部鐵路 8:50 開往金漢姆的列車。沿途停靠：雷丁、牛津、漢伯勒、查爾伯里、金漢姆。 列車共有 8 節車廂，頭等艙位於列車後半部，普通艙位於前、中半部。Granny: Get on the train and have a nice trip!
老奶奶：上車吧！祝妳玩得愉快！Linda: Thanks for your help! Have a nice day!
Linda：感謝您的幫忙，祝您有個美好的一天！
timetable (n.) 時刻表
timetable 在英式用法中可以指「(公車、火車、飛機的) 時刻表」，也可以指旅行或活動的「時間表；時間安排」。
The timetable shows that the next bus will be on time.
時刻表顯示下一班公車會準時到。
delayed (adj.) 延誤的；延期的
delay 為動詞，表示「使延誤」，變成分詞 delayed 則可當形容詞用。時刻表上若出現 delayed 就是指班次「延誤的；延期的 (誤點)」，而 on time 則是「準時的 (準點)」 。
The local train is delayed again!
區間車又誤點了！
若要表示「延誤…時間」可以用「 be delayed by + 時間」這個句型。
My flight will be delayed by 2 hours due to the thick fog.
我的班機因為濃霧延後兩小時。
ruin (v.) 毀壞；毀掉
ruin 的意思是「毀壞；毀掉」，當名詞若意為「毀壞；破壞」是不可數名詞，若意為「廢墟；斷垣殘壁」則通常用複數形。
Tom ruined the birthday surprise for Mom! He let it slip last night.
Tom 毀了媽媽的生日驚喜！他昨晚說溜嘴了。
call at (phr.) 沿途停靠
call at 並不是在叫誰，而是指船、火車等「沿途停靠」、「短暫停靠」，後面直接加上停靠的地點。
The cruise ship is expected to call at the Port of Gothenburg.
遊輪預計會短暫停靠哥德堡港。
歐洲許多鐵路都規劃得非常完善，大家可以善用火車來趟自由行唷！
