emigrated to → emigrated from 離開原居地

Jason emigrated from Taiwan.
Jason
Jason immigrated to the United States.
Jason

The delicious smell of barbecue coming from the kitchen really whets my appetite!

Her experience as an intern at the bank piqued her interest in learning finance.

而 sneak a look/glance at sb./sth.

The company’s employees will be offered a sneak peek at the new application software.

tie sb. over → tide sb. over

Henry was broke, so his friends loaned him some money to tide him over until payday.

(Ben Saunders: To the South Pole and back — the hardest 105 days of my life)

tow the line → toe the line

Prisoners have to toe the line if they want to be released from prison on time.

through the ringer → through the wringer

Sb. put me through the wringer

Mike was really put through the wringer at the triathlon. He had to swim, cycle and run over long distances.

nip it in the butt → nip it in the bud

The idea of building theme park in the city was nipped in the bud by the government because of the cost.
