1. make up 組成/編造/補償/化妝/和解
這個片語的意思很多，但都是相當常見的用法，不可不知！
組成
Our team is made up of eleven members.
我們團隊由11位成員組成。
編造
The story John told you was totally a lie. He made it up.
剛剛 John 告訴你的故事完全是謊言，那是他虛構的。
補償
Can I make up the history exam I missed?
我錯過的歷史考試可以補考嗎？
和解
Clark and Lois had a fight but soon made up.
Clark 和 Lois 起了爭執但很快就和好了。
2. make up one’s mind 下定決心
Bruce made up his mind to stop gambling and go find a job finally.
Bruce 終於下定決心戒掉賭博並開始找工作。
3. make out 親熱/結果/了解意義
親熱
Phil was making out with his girlfriend in his room last night.
Phil 昨晚和女友在他的房間裡親熱。
結果
Our new coffee shop made out better than expected this quarter.
我們新開的咖啡廳這一季的表現比預期好很多！
了解意義
make out 當理解時與 figure out 意思相同。
Alfred was still confused and trying to make/figure out what had happened.
Alfred 仍然相當困惑，並試圖理解到底發生了什麼事。
4. make it 達到特定目標或抵達某地
It’s tough to succeed in real estate business, but if you work hard I know you’ll make it eventually.
要在房地產業成功很困難，但如果你努力工作，我相信你最後可以達到的。
5. make sense 合理
Why would he do such a terrible thing? It makes no sense.
為什麼他做了這麼糟糕的事？這不合理。
6. make a fortune 發財、賺到一筆錢
Diana made a fortune on the stock market.

7. make a living 維生
Olivia is struggling to make a living as a ballet dancer.

10. make no difference 沒有作用或影響
