1. white lie
white lie 不是指白色的謊言，而是在形容「善意的謊言」。
I would never accept a white lie even if it is out of good intentions.
就算是出於好意，我也不能接受善意的謊言。
2. true colors
千萬別以為 true colors 是在指「真實的顏色」。像美國80年代女歌手 Cyndi Lauper 的歌 True Colors 裡的意思一樣，這個片語的意思是「真實的自我」或「真面目」。而歌詞中 “But I see your true colors shining through” 的意思就是 「但我看見你真實的自我閃耀著光芒」。
Once you get to know him better, you will see his true colors.
當你跟他更熟後，你就會見識到他的真面目。
3. tickled pink
tickled pink 字面上的意思是「粉紅瘙癢」。但其實這個片語真正的意思是「非常開心」或「滿意」，有種「心花怒放」的概念。
I was tickled pink by the compliments.
那些讚美令我心花怒放。
4. out of the blue
這個片語字面上是「藍色外面」，但其實 out of the blue 真正的意思是「意外地」或「出乎意料地」。
He hasn’t contacted me for years but appeared in front of my house out of the blue last night.
他多年都沒跟我聯絡，但是昨晚卻意外地出現在我家門前。
5. to be green
to be green 並不是真的說人是「綠色」的，而是指他人「沒經驗」或是是「新手」的意思。
He just graduated and is rather green.
他剛畢業，而且還沒什麼經驗。
6. the pot calling the kettle black
the pot calling the kettle black 直接翻譯是「鍋說壺黑」，但這個片語其實是在形容「五十步笑百步」或「半斤八兩」的意思。
He called me stubborn. Isn’t that like the pot calling the kettle black?
他說我固執。這不是五十步笑百步嗎？
